Who Are Sakura Products & Exports (Pvt) Ltd?

Sakura Products & Exports (Pvt) Ltd, also known as Sakura Sesame, began in 2006 through a government training programme for rural entrepreneurs. The first investment was just Rs. 500. Today we are one of Sri Lanka's leading producers and exporters of sesame and sesame-based food products.

Our home is Pitakanda, in the Kolonna Division of the Ratnapura District, about 38 km from Embilipitiya town. We have never moved to the city. We believe good food should come from the place where it is grown.

From Our Farmers' Fields to Your Table

Every Sakura product starts with Ceylon sesame. Sri Lanka's dry and intermediate zones are ideal for this oil-rich seed. We work with an island-wide network of about 300 farmers. They grow our sesame and other raw materials, and they have a guaranteed buyer for every harvest.

The sesame is harvested, dried and cleaned carefully. We process it with traditional methods and modern machinery, without chemicals. That is why leading hotels and bakeries in Sri Lanka use Sakura sesame. Buying locally grown sesame also means the country imports less of it.

Our sesame sweets are made the way Sri Lankan grandmothers made them. We use roasted sesame and natural jaggery, with no artificial colours or flavours. Thala guli is also called thala bola, and in Tamil ellu urundai . It is one of the island's best-loved sweets. It suits Avurudu tables, tea-time and gift boxes, and it is a healthier choice than many packaged snacks.
